The session was a great success. There were around 50 attendees.
Eric started his Hong Kong Milk Tea with tea leaves formula developed 2 years ago. He learned all the basics such as regulations to prepare food products in UK in order to get a licence in food preparation.
Nadia, a younger entrepreneur, she sells Hong Kong waffles freshly made in markets. She attended classes where she obtained cooking skills and also all the basic requirements of preparing and selling food.
Both shared invaluable experiences to the audiences who asked questions of different stages of their Journey.
A couple of months ago, a friend of GLHK Wallace came to visit us with Nadia in a Town Hall discussion. After the talk, Nadia said she would like to make HK waffle in GLHK and share with everyone.
We kept that in mind. When an idea came to hold a children event, we thought of Nadia, because Waffles are one of children’s favourite snacks. The children’s singing event did not go ahead, then we met Eric, whose brand building story was very touching and interesting. We thought that the story of making milk tea and waffles can be a good combination to enhance each other.
Eric learnt the import regulations where he can import original food materials. "I started to market it as tea leaves brand and also sell milk tea as a ready to drink products." He talked about how he marketed the milk tea and convinced different supermarkets to sell his products.
After the talk, Eric and Nadia offered participants their drink and freshly made waffles. They sold everything they brought to the event.
The interesting thing about as a place of sharing, there are people who would naturally mingle with each other and chat. One of the participants who told me that he was studying his master in Germany and would like to do an interview. I told him that the lady on the other side was also studying her master and preparing her dissertation. The two of them started talking and exchanged their experiences.
GLHK has provided a space for Hongkongers to share their skills and also as a platform to let others to know and try their products in a safe and comfortable environment.
